Is "campaign finance reform" about good governance?

From a recent announcement about an upcoming appearance by FEC Vice-Chair Ann Ravel, co-hosted by The League of Women Voters and, two groups that advocate more restrictions of political funding and speech:

“Regardless of your issue — fear of our democracy becoming a “Dollarocracy,” or concern about corporate interference in addressing climate change and community clean energy, fracking or GMO’s on our public lands, gun control on campuses and in national parks, or in our most private choices — you will have a chance to speak for two minutes.”

Not that we’ve got a substantive agenda when we advocate for restrictions on political funding and speech… it’s just good government, man!

The Center for Competitive Politics is now the Institute for Free Speech.
