The Center for Competitive Politics (CCP) announced today that it bolstered its legal team by hiring Reid Cox as the organization’s new legal director.

"Reid has dedicated much of his professional life to defending the Constitution and brings a wealth of experience that will aid the Center for Competitive Politics mission to protect and expand First Amendment rights," said CCP President Sean Parnell  "We are excited that he is bringing his expertise and enthusiasm to the organization."

Cox joins CCP after serving nearly 3 years in the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, where he was a trial attorney for the Employment Litigation Section.

Before working at the DOJ, Cox practiced law for more than three years at the Center for Individual Freedom, serving first as Assistant General Counsel and later as General Counsel.  Cox was charged with primary responsibility for CFIF’s litigation efforts, including serving as counsel in eight cases before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Cox’s experience at CFIF also included work on a significant number of campaign finance and First Amendment cases including, Center for Individual Freedom v. Carmouche.  CFIF was also a plaintiff in McConnell v. FEC.

"I am looking forward to helping the Center for Competitive Politics secure the core political rights of citizens which have been largely eroded by our onerous campaign finance system," Cox said.

Cox holds three degrees from Indiana University at Bloomington.  He graduated magna cum laude from the School of Law in 2000, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.  Reid also earned a Master’s Degree in journalism from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science in 1995.  Immediately following law school, Cox clerked for the Honorable Anthony A. Alaimo, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Georgia.
