Arlington, Va. – Today the Center for Competitive Politics announces its Board of Academic Advisors. "We cannot imagine having better counselors in political processes, competition, and First Amendment freedom," said CCP Executive Director Steve Hoersting.
Larry J. Sabato is the Robert Kent Gooch Professor of Political Science at the University of Virginia and Director of the UVA Center for Politics. His slogan is "Politics is a good thing!" and he has devoted his career to improving civic education and the political process. Herbert E. Alexander is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Southern California, and Found and Director Emeritus of the Citizen’s Research Foundation. Dr. Alexander has written, co-authored, or edited more than 15 books, 100 articles, and numerous editorials on matters relating to money in politics. Lillian R. BeVier is the David and Mary Harrison Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. She is the 2006 recipient of the University of Virginia alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award. Professor BeVier’s extensive contributions to campaign finance literature include two books, Is Free TV for Federal Candidates Constitutional? Michael C. Munger is the Chairman of Duke University’s Department of Political Science. His research interests include the study of ideology, legislative institutions, elections, and public policy, with a particular emphasis on campaign finance. http://www.duke.edu/~munger/
Joel M. Gora is Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Brooklyn Law School. Professor Gora is an expert on the First Amendment and has written and lectured extensively on campaign finance reform. In addition to his scholarly work in the area, Professor Gora served as on of the plaintiffs’ attorneys in Buckley v. The Center for Competitive Politics is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by former FEC Chairman Bradley A. Smith, professor of law at Capital University law School and of counsel to Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, and Stephen M. Hoersting, a campaign finance attorney and former general counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee. CCP’s mission, through legal briefs, studies, historical and constitutional analysis, and media communication, is to educate the public on the actual effects of money in politics, and the results of a more free and competitive electoral process.
