The Center for Competitive Politics (CCP) is pleased to welcome Matthew McIntyre to our External Relations Department as an External Relations Associate.
Matthew recently graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Political Science. Before joining CCP, Matthew worked as a Research Intern in Health Policy at the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C. Prior to his stint at the Cato Institute, Matthew interned with the Barre Area Development Corporation, an independent economic development company in Barre, Vermont.
Matthew is very much looking forward to joining CCP, as he is passionate about the First Amendment’s guarantee of free political speech. “Of all the important campaign finance issues of the day, what interests me most is that citizens are required to disclose personal details to the government, including their name, address, employer, and occupation, for making a donation as little as $200 to a political campaign for federal office,” said Matthew. “Such requirements compromise an individual’s privacy, over a contribution so small it is doubtful a candidate would even know the donor’s name, let alone be corrupted by the contribution.”
Matthew looks forward to working with the External Relations Department staff to research and write about this and other growing assaults on First Amendment political speech rights. He will contribute to the External Relations Department’s efforts by conducting research and authoring policy briefs on topical political speech issues. We are pleased to welcome him to our team.
